Solid Stone

The different types of walls

Solid load bearing walls
A stone load bearing wall supports all facade loads and thus avoids the need for a reinforced concrete or other type of structural frame, except in the case of concentrated forces on very small sections (mullions).

If the wall is composed of a single material throughout its thickness (Technical datasheet n° 1) or several materials fixed to each other (Technical datasheet n° 2), a thickness of 20 to 40 cm will satisfy regulatory requirements for resistance to water and will provide an excellent thermal inertia.

If the wall is composed of two separate skins (Technical datasheet n° 3), the sound insulation will be better: the higher initial investment will result in a high technical quality.

Double skin load bearing walls
(Technical datasheet n° 4) Vertical masonry structure in which the external non-bearing skin of a double wall is made of freestone or quarry stone, and the internal skin is made of brickwork or concrete:
- the outside skin is supported on every floor or on every two floors if the wall thickness is 8 to 11 cm.
- The wall can span two or more floors if the skin thickness is more than 11 cm.
